INTRODUCTION

Now in its XIV edition, L’Isola del Cinema once again brings to the heart of Rome Italian and International Cinema, supplemented by cultural events and exhibitions set against the magical backdrop of L’Isola Tiberina. L’Isola del Cinema becomes the ideal vantage-point from which one can discover the world: a meeting place of cultural encounters and exchanges.

As in past editions, this year L’Isola del Cinema has as its major supporters, the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, the Rome Council (Comune di Roma), the Saint Egidio Community and the Embassies of the participating countries.

Voyage through Italy
A scenic voyage of discovery through Italy’s Regions which showcases their cinematographic potential and highlights the key role of the Italian Film Commissions.

The World in Focus
New films from around the world – a space dedicated to international cinema which creates an environment conducive to encounters and exchanges with the film industries of the participating countries.

In Love with Rome
To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Anna Magnani, several films and a photographic exhibition supplemented by various literary events, will be held to celebrate one of the most important protagonists in the history of Italian cinema.

The Island of Solidarity
In close collaboration with the Saint Egidio Community, a series of events will be held on the Tiberina Island which will focus on the theme of solidarity. In particular, the DREAM Project (Drug Resource Enhancement Against Aids and Malnutrition) which aims, through its global approach, to find a cure for AIDS and the project “…pia mimi nitaenda shule..” (…”I too will go to school..”), which aims to have African children adopted at long distance to assist with their basic tuition.

Wandering Roots
A voyage through past and contemporary films to highlight the contribution made by the Jewish culture to the Seventh Art.

The Island of Rome
An exhibition which can be described as an evocative walk between natural settings and photographs that recall the Myth of Rome and which highlights both the history and the architecture of the Tiberina Island. A stroll through history, accompanied by some of the most beautiful film soundtracks from the world of cinema.

The Island of Poetry
An event which invites anyone game enough to try their hand at poetry-making before a poetry-loving public: poets are invited to improvise, recite their own work or read famous poems , either in Italian or in the Roman dialect.

La Dolce Vita
La Dolce Vita - a photographic exhibition dedicated to a great paparazzo, Carlo Riccardi - regarded by Fellini and Flaiano as their favourite photographer. The exhibition will feature photographs taken from Carlo Riccardi’s personal collection.
